About us

An independent operator, police-grade equipment, and a strong dislike of guesswork.

Applied Speed Technologies is an owner-operated business serving the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. No franchise, no call centre - the person who quotes your job is the person who shows up and points the laser. Work that needs two pairs of hands, like the moving-platform method, is run with a second operator.

About me

Why I started doing this

I was born in North Carolina and moved to Texas for work. Not long after I got here I started noticing how often the same thing was happening on the roads around me: somebody pulled over on the shoulder, hazards on, who had been keeping pace with the traffic around them and genuinely had no idea they were speeding.

Pacing is the trap. You match the car in front, you assume the speedometer in front of you is telling the truth, and you find out it was not when somebody with a calibrated instrument tells you so. By that point it has already cost you money - and depending on where and how fast, considerably more than money.

Because that is the part underneath all of this: speeding kills. Not as a slogan - as the reason a school zone has the limit it has. A driver who genuinely knows their true speed is a safer driver than one who is trusting an instrument nobody has ever checked. Most people have never had theirs checked. That seemed like something worth fixing, so I bought the equipment the police use, learned to operate it properly, and set out to set things right.

So that is the business. I bring calibrated police-grade radar and laser to wherever you need the measurement made, I run it the way it is supposed to be run - forks, circuit tests, known distances, cross-checks, multiple runs - and I write down exactly what the instruments said. You are welcome to stand next to me while I do it, and you are welcome to take the readings yourself.

If you have had a ticket and you think your speedometer is wrong, that is exactly the question this equipment answers. It will tell you whether you were right - and it is just as willing to tell you that you were not.

Questions before you book?

Ask them. Happy to explain what the equipment can and cannot do before you spend anything.
